Legendary Ring of Honor star, and ROH tag team champion Jay Briscoe (real name Jamin Pugh) sadly passed away in a car accident Tuesday night.
The Shore News Beacon reported “”four patients were trapped” in the fatal accident. The report noted there were two fatalities and “two critical patients” with one patient referenced as “pediatric.”
ROH owner Tony Khan confirmed the news.
“Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today,” said Khan via Twitter several hours after Briscoe’s passing.
Professional wrestler Jay Briscoe has died at the age of 38 in an auto accident in Laurel, Delaware on Tuesday.
AEW owner Tony Khan announced the tragic news on Twitter Tuesday, writing, ‘Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away,’ using the wrestler’s real name.
‘Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today,’ Khan said. ‘Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin.’
The news was confirmed by the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, who said the accident took place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Meltzer reported that ‘two children [were] hospitalized’ in the accident, and that his brother Mark Briscoe, 38, ‘was not in the car with him.’
CBS affiliate WBOC said that ‘due to the tragic incident, the Laurel School District say they are closing schools on Wednesday, Jan. 18,’ and that ‘schools will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 19.’
